On May 20, 2026, Heidelberg hosted an information session on the development of the Scott gravel pit within the Bearspaw community. Many residents attended who were objecting to the project and/or voicing their concerns. 

Currently, Heidelberg is completing the technical studies required to support its application to the NRCB (Natural Resource Conservation Board.) The expectation is that Heidelberg will file its formal application in the fall. Once the NRCB receives the formal application, it will review it to determine if it is complete. If complete, the NRCB will schedule a public hearing. If needed, the NRCB will schedule a pre-hearing conference where the Bearspaw Community Coalition will provide input on timing of technical review and request intervenor funding. The NRCB's public hearing is a quasi-judicial hearing where Heidelberg, the Coalition and any other intervenors will present their evidence in support  of, or in opposition to, the application. At the close of the public hearing, the NRCB has 80 business days in which to issue its decision.

The Coalition has hired a regulatory lawyer with experience before the NRCB. It also is engaging independent experts in the areas of hydrogeology, surface water, air quality, health impacts, noise, economics and cumulative effects. In addition, the Coalition is working towards greater community engagement and media coverage. Funding is needed for the independent technical experts, legal services, advocacy work, communications and research.
