Aggregate Resource Plan Still Under Discussion; Public Hearing in June

5 May 2025 10:14 AM | Anonymous

The updated Aggregate Resource Plan (ARP) is still under discussion. Administration provided Rocky View County Council a report on the ARP at the April 22, 2025, Council meeting. Staff reported that 266 individuals provided feedback on the draft ARP documents which indicated strong community support for the ARP. Staff said that the community indicated a preference for stronger policies related to such issues as setback distances; better access to information on aggregate sites; stronger proactive monitoring with both scheduled and unscheduled inspections; stricter penalties for non-compliance; improved monitoring of air and water quality; stronger monitoring of truck traffic; improved requirements for public engagement; and the importance of independent third-party reviews of technical studies. Council will have their own workshop on the ARP on May 22, 2025, for further consideration.

At the April 22, 2025, hearing, Council's discussions showed that not all councillors are in favour of the ARP. Some councillors are concerned about restrictions to gravel operators. As such, it will be important for community members to show up at the public hearing about the ARP planned for June 2025.
